    Help us further our mission as the Lead Career Specialist!

     

    The Lead Career Specialist supervises the activities and development of a team of Career Specialists. These activities include the development, implementation and administration of Individuals Service Plans (ISP); monitoring trainee activities; maintaining documentation per funder requirements; developing and implementing alternative rehabilitation methods and strategies consistent with program goals and objectives. This position reports to the Employment Services Manager and works closely with our Mission Services leadership.

    Qualifications

    What you'll do: 

    • Supervises and coordinates employee work assignments ensuring end-to-end services for our participants.
    • Leads, coaches and engages employees to achieve goals.
    • Implements and conducts job development and placement through contact with prospective job providers/employers.
    • Advises and monitors activities of trainees through written procedures and reporting as required.
    • Conducts class training on all aspects of career exploration, work readiness, resume writing, application completion, job search, interviewing and maintaining employment.
    • Develops and implements Individual Service Plans (ISP) based on functional goals. Receives and incorporates feedback about the ISP from team members and submits ISP for review.
    • Prepares written staffing summary and maintains attendance records.
    • Attends agency meetings and in-service training as needed.
    • Ensures safety and security requirements are followed, including maintaining confidentiality as required by HIPAA.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    What it takes:

    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in human services, or equivalent experience.
    • Two years of related experience in recruitment, placement, employment services, human resources, or human services.
    • One year of experience coaching or teaching others preferred.
    • Experience leading or supervising others.
    • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams, networking, and experience developing relationships strongly preferred.

    Qualified candidates must:

    • Pass Nationally Recognized Employment Support Professional Certification – ASPE’s Certified Employment Support Professionals (CESP) Exam
    • Demonstrate personal and professional responsibilities including the display of patience, understanding, flexibility and ability to adjust to unexpected or different situations
    • Obtain First Aid/CPR certification
    • Effective written and verbal communication
    • Exercise good judgement
    • Provide superior customer service
    • Achieve ongoing continuing education of four (4) hours yearly in Employment Services – has 24 months from the date of hire to meet the educational requirements and earn the professional certification required
    • Work in a deadline driven environment
    • Access to reliable transportation for regular participation in work

    All candidates must possess a valid Iowa Driver’s License, have a good driving record, be insurable, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance with a minimum of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident auto insurance liability. Also, must pass a criminal background check and dependent adult and child abuse background check.
