Goodwill's mission is to improve the quality of life for all individuals by providing skills training and helping people find jobs. VISTA's mission is to increase the capacity of low-income people to improve the conditions of their own lives. What happens when these two organizations partner together? An AWESOME opportunity to build your community and career!
This is an opportunity to spend one year serving full-time to make a difference here at home. This is a unique chance to improve your life and the lives of others. AmeriCorps VISTA is about helping all individuals reach their fullest potential. VISTA is designed to build the capacity of an organization and enhance its ability to serve the community. As a result, VISTA impacts both the person serving as well as the individuals served. From Alaska to Puerto Rico, AmeriCorps VISTA members are building communities while building their careers. VISTA candidates must be willing to commit to the VISTA Service Commitment for 1 year with the expectation of a Living Allowance of no more than $12,311. Put your power to work for an organization that believes in the power of work as the Goodwill Volunteer Coordinator VISTA!
What this VISTA project is all about:
Through this project we seek to increase the use of and enhance the effectiveness of volunteers in mission programs and retail stores. We aim to increase and/or improve volunteer pipelines by strengthening partnerships with central Iowa organizations.
This role will work from our Johnston, Iowa headquarters. Located just north of the Des Moines metro, our headquarters hosts a variety of skills training and employment services programs, as well as a warehouse and retail location. This allows for a diverse learning experience with an exceptional team of operational and mission team members, as well as trainees and job seekers.
In 2017, Goodwill leveraged 1,005 volunteers who contributed a total of 16,772 hours. We are excited with that result but aim to increase the volunteer retention at Goodwill. We believe the use of pro bono skills-based and traditional volunteer programs can grow our capacity to serve individuals with barriers and expand our impact in Central Iowa. The ideal candidate will be people-focused, goal-oriented, and passionately committed to making a contribution to the growth of others.
