Goodwill's mission is to improve the quality of life for all individuals by providing skills training and helping people find jobs.  VISTA's mission is to increase the capacity of low-income people to improve the conditions of their own lives. What happens when these two organizations partner together? An AWESOME opportunity to build your community and career!

This is an opportunity to spend one year serving full-time to make a difference here at home. This is a unique chance to improve your life and the lives of others. AmeriCorps VISTA is about helping all individuals reach their fullest potential. VISTA is designed to build the capacity of an organization and enhance its ability to serve the community. As a result, VISTA impacts both the person serving as well as the individuals served. From Alaska to Puerto Rico, AmeriCorps VISTA members are building communities while building their careers. VISTA candidates must be willing to commit to the VISTA Service Commitment for 1 year with the expectation of a Living Allowance of no more than $12,311. (Additional education, child care and health benefits are available, to learn more about the benefits of VISTA service click here). To learn more about the VISTA program please click here, or copy and paste this short link: https://bit.ly/2nyMnfN.

Put your power to work for an organization that believes in the power of work as the Goodwill Refugee & Immigrant Outreach VISTA!

What this VISTA project is all about:

In Des Moines, 11% of the population is foreign born and 17% of the population identified a language other than English spoken at home. According to the Iowa International Center, by the year 2020, Latino and Asian populations will increase by 20% and 10% respectively. Through this project, we seek to increase the participation of refugees and immigrants in skills and job readiness training through collaborative relationships with other service providers and a robust network of volunteers.

This role will work from our Des Moines Goodwill Career Connection Center. Goodwill of Central Iowa’s Career Connection Centers are one-stop shops for career development and job search assistance. We provide free services to help individuals get a job, earn a better job, and gain the skills needed for a rewarding career.

This year long project will have you discovering best practices, developing strategy and executing an outreach campaign that helps us reach more job seekers and employers.
