    The Supported Employment Lead provides oversight and leadership to Career Specialists in the field, conducts intake processes for participants seeking Supported Employment Services, and provides oversight of billing procedures and documentation related to programming.  Additionally, the Supported Employment Lead provides training and development for participants including work skills, job searching, and job acquisition and maintenance through Supported Employment Programming.  The Supported Employment Lead works with the Employment Services Manager to meet the goals of the Supported Employment Department.

     

    This a field position with varied hours, serving Story, Marshall, and Tama counties. This position will spend the majority of the workday traveling out in the community meeting with businesses and participants. Applicants must live within a reasonable driving distance from Ames, Iowa or Marshalltown, Iowa to be considered for this role.

     

    What you'll do: 

    • Supervise, direct, coordinate and monitor employee work assignment to meet standards.
    • Recommend and initiate personnel actions, such as hiring, promotions, transfers, discharge, and disciplinary actions while maintaining confidentiality.
    • Complete annual performance appraisals.
    • Must be able to implement and conduct job development and placement through contact with prospective job providers/employers.
    • Must be able to demonstrate personal and professional responsibilities, must have patience, understanding, flexibility and ability to adjust to unexpected or different situations; and able to learn and apply new concepts and ideas.
    • Conduct participant orientation and work practices.
    • Receive team member(s) input, develop and implement Individual Service Plan based on functional goals.
    • Develops and implements alternative rehabilitation methods and strategies consistent with program goals and objectives
    • Ability to conduct training and classes on all aspects of career exploration, work readiness, resume writing, application completion, job search, interviewing and maintaining employment.
    • Teach, supervise, advise and monitor activities of participants
    • Conduct regular scheduled placement follow up to ensure job adjustment and retention
    • Complete Client Application, Evaluation, Funding Authorization & Enrollment, ensuring a seamless process for all prospects
    • Assess training needs and interests of prospective trainees
    • Build relationships with other agencies to gain referrals and respond to all referral calls within 5 business days
    • Maintains records and casefile documentation per requirements
    • Attend agency meetings, and in-service training as needed.
    • Follow safety and security requirements.
    • Maintain confidentiality and abide by HIPAA requirements.

    Qualifications

    What it takes:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or equivalent experience (6-8 years) in one of the following fields: human services, business, education, marketing, sales or human resources.
    • Two (2) years of related experience. 
    • One year coaching or teaching others preferred. 
    • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
    • Ability to pass Nationally Recognized Employment Support Professional Certification – ASPE’s Certified Employment Support Professionals (CESP) Exam.
    • Ongoing continuing education of four (4) hours yearly in Employment Services – has 24 months from the date of hire to meet the educational requirements and earn the professional certification required.
    • Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
    • Ability to work cooperatively with team members and the public in a professional manner.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail required.
    • Must be able to perform basic math.
    • Basic use of Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Ability to work under pressure, maintain accuracy, and meet deadlines.
    • Access to reliable transportation for regular participation in work.
    • A valid Iowa driver license, a good driving record, and ability to provide proof of personal vehicle insurance with a minimum of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident auto insurance liability coverage.
    • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and a dependent adult and child abuse background check.
    • Patience and be understanding.
    • Ability to adjust to unexpected or different situations.
    • Ability to learn and apply new concepts and ideas.
