    By joining our retail team as a Store Manager, your work will aid our mission of improving the quality of life for all individuals by providing skills training and helping people find jobs. The Store Manager manages the day-to-day operation of the retail store. This role directs, coordinates, and monitors the retail store activities and business. The Store Manager is responsible for supervising and training employees and clients, and ensuring good customer service is being provided. You will also assist in spreading our mission by informing customers they helped someone get a job. Last year alone, Goodwill of Central Iowa helped more than 800 people find employment and over 14,000 gain skills needed for a rewarding career.


    What you'll do here

    • Plan, prioritize, assign, monitor and supervise employees, clients and/or volunteers daily job duties
    • Schedule and coordinate employee days and hours of work weekly
    • Answer questions, advise, demonstrate and train employees and/or clients on customer service, cash register operation, stocking methods, cleaning, and safety procedures
    • Recommend and initiate personnel actions such as hiring, transfer, discharge, disciplinary actions, etc., while maintaining confidentiality of employee records
    • Promote customer recognition and build a repeat customer base
    • Monitor sales in store
    • Manage store layout
    • Develop and maintain security measures for merchandise and cash handling
    • Ensure safety and welfare of employees and instruct in proper security and safety procedures
    • Provide good customer service and reply to customer needs and ensure employees do the same
    • Operate cash register, prepare cash register forms, balance and record reports and ensure employees do the same
    • Order, receive, select, solicit, stock and rotate merchandise per store quota
    • Ensure that donated goods are received, sorted and processed
    • Organize and ensure store is cleaned and displays changed weekly


    What you’ll need

    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Must be 18 years of age or older
    • A high school diploma or equivalent- Four (4) years of any combination of military service, high school, or related full-time paid employment may substitute for education requirement
    • A minimum for eighteen (18) months of related full-time paid employment, including at least twelve (12) months of supervisory experience
    • Must have basic math skills
    • Must be able to maintain order and cleanliness
    • Must be able to maintain safety regulations
    • Must be able to instruct, train, and demonstrate effectively
    • Must be able to effectively manage and supervise retail store activities, such as inventory, quality control, and employee motivation
    • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Must be able to successfully work with a diverse population of people
    • Must be organized, and be able to plan, assign, and monitor work to meet deadlines
    • Must be able to carry, life, push or pull forty (40) pounds
    • Must be flexible and able to adjust to unexpected or different situations
    • Access to reliable transportation for regular participation in work
    • A valid Iowa driver license, a good driving record, and ability to provide proof of personal vehicle insurance with a minimum of $100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident auto insurance liability coverage
    • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and a dependent adult and child abuse background check

    • Be a team player who is eager to work with a variety of people in a helpful, upbeat manner
    • Have retail experience and familiarity with using point-of-sale (POS) systems
